CPJC General Meeting Minutes: June 3, 2007
The Spot performances are moving from every last Thursday of the month to every last Friday of the month. It was proposed that since this venue works well for us…we pack it easily, and we showcase 5 singers/musicians from the CPJC in every performance there, that we may want to add a Saturday every month also. The next show is Friday, June 29th, 8:00 to 11:00 pm.
The 1st performance at the Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill, hosted by Lucy Blanco, turned out to be a total gas! Debi Tinsley, Sunsiray Whitmore and Ann Mack were the featured performers, led by a trio with pianist Michael Andrews. CPJC member, and booking person for the establishment, Dolores Peterson, has booked several more performances for us, due to our great success! The next one will be Thursday, July 26th, featuring Heather Evans, Sidno Garner, and Gayle LaRone…accompanied by Karen Hammack, Nedra Wheeler, and Jack LeCompte. Wow, what a band!
We’re doing a benefit at the Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill on July 8th Sunday at 3:00 pm, for Bili Redd and Van Grey, two of our favorite folks…who could use a helping hand right now!
Member Denise Anya is working on a Long Beach location for us to perform at!
Our “4 Souls” performances at The Jazz Bakery in Culver City, are on a slight hold, due to our chairman writing up a real show for it’s further development.
And speaking of shows….both our chairman, Robert Walker, and our show director, Logan Johnson, are creating shows. These will include our members, and be based around Jazz and blues. Logan’s show will be held on an upcoming Sunday brunch at the Hollywood Studio Bar and Grill. Keep tuned!
June 9th the CPJC was the featured entertainment at a Red Cross special awards event, held in Sylmar. Logan Johnson show highlighted 4 of our people, that included Logan, James Geralden, Linda Smith, and Sunsiray Whitmore…accompanied by Eddy Olivieri, Bill Markus, and Kurt Walther. Taking care of all the PR and business arrangements is our PR man, Edward Powell! It was a smash!
Sharmila Guha, our webmaster, has added a “members only” page to our website. It includes a very easy form to fill out for publicizing your gig on the site. We want you to take pictures of our gigs, and write a blurb about the show! After you to do it, and send it to Sharmila…be a contributing photographer and writer!
We spoke of new ways to develop fans…such as going out to events or locations and passing out information about us, or our gigs! Or committing to talking to 5 strangers a week, and telling them about us! Michele Jaimene is the manager of an apartment building in Pasadena, and is willing to pass out flyers there! 300 people there! She took over the position of chairman of that committee. Kathryn Farmer will be a member of that committee too. Of course, we need more members for that committee!
We have developed a sub-board meeting, where the board meets with those folks who are leading a committee, a position, or an event. This way, we don’t have to totally involve those folks at the general meetings with all the details of everything…and we actually did finish our general meeting this day in just 2 hours!
Chairman Robert Walker and President Cathy Segal-Garcia firmed up ideas of the business groups forming under the umbrella of the CPJC…It includes: RCL Record Label, Council Management, Council Music Group, Council Vision magazine, and Council Music Publishing. This is the future of our organization…it looks like an exciting year.
We will very soon start planning our next big event. We want it to be a smash, like our last one at the Bakery, in March, and we want to start early planning, ‘cause we don’t want to kill ourselves approaching it!
Remember, we want your ideas, we want your involvement… think of something that we can all join in on and do! And we definitely need FUND RAISER EVENTS! This is a terrific group of people who really are able to join together and accomplish things based on love and success! I’m proud of this group!
